Cassubia

Cassubia - also called Kashubia - is a historic land in northern Poland, nearby to the Baltic Sea. Cassubia as a principality was firstly mentioned by pope Gregory IX in 1238, and the the formal title of Princess of Cassubia is still held by Queen of Denmark. Cassubia today is a teritory of Poland. Most Cassubians have Polish and European Union citizenship. The biggest Cassubian diaspora lives in Germany, Canada and USA.

Cassubians are known to be honest, cold, silent and down-to-earth. They are not very romantic instead. In comparison with warm-hearted Polish, Cassubians seem to belong to Scandinavian circle.

Nowadays the territory where the Cassubians live got smaller. Some hundreds years ago it was between Gdańsk and Vistula river (in today's Poland) and Rostock and Elbe River (in today's Germany). The most known part of today's Cassubia is the middle subregion called Cassubian Switzerland, because of really beautiful mounts, lakes and views.

Cassubians speak Cassubian language (ISO code CSB) which is a West-Slavonic language, similar to Polish and Czech.
